Paper Embroidery and Chinese Knotting

Two of my favorite crafts. Paper embroidery and Chinese Knotting
Pattern for embroidery from this link: http://www.dotcomwomen.com/crafts/paper_embroidery.shtml

And the Chinese knot is a PanChang knot which I learnt in Chinese Knotting: Creative designs that are easy and fun! by Lydia Chen.

The knot takes me around 2 hours to make...I am not a fast knotter - I experience it everyday while tying my shoelaces..

I must have posted after a year??...

Dress Piece 1 done

still no photos. But I did complete the first part of the toddler dress - the panties. Have left the option to add elastic up to the parents :-)
Now on to my favourite - the hat. I need to cut interfacing and lining parts today. I ran out of red sewing thread. Once I buy it I will start sewing the hat. Till then I will finish all these preparatory tasks.
I need to buy more cloth for the dress. Will do that while buying thread.
have fun :-)

Dress

This would I guess be my first adventure in stitching wearables..I do hope it is wearable by the time it is done. :-)
It is a dress for my little niece. I got the pattern at Walmart.
http://www.mccallpattern.com/item/M4421.htm
The pattern is lovely and it is coming out very well. :-) I am very happy.
The panties in the pattern are nearly done. I don't have a sewing machine. So this dress would be entirely handsewn.
I have marked the hat on the fabric. Would be cutting it out today. I am so excited. The hat was my favourite amongst the three things to sew. After cutting out fabric for the panties and the hat, I am now out of cloth and would need to buy more fabric to make the dress.
I am really excited at how it is turning out. Pillu was also so happy - wow you can make your own clothes now baby - is what he said :-)
ok this was a post after a long time. I decided I had to post or else I will be blabbering incoherently with my sis-in-law (little niece's mommy...) about this dress and boring her. It would be better if I blabber in my online diary :-) Atleast she won't get bored :-)

I was also into Chinese knotting for a few days. One little knot takes around 2 hours to get done. It has me in knots and mazes. But I love the effect. I will continue this after finishing the dress and will post photos of the knots. .

In the library, I came across a lovely book called Paper Dreams. Lots and lots of paper hangings, ornaments were taught in it.

Xmas tree :-)

Our annual Xmas tree - photo in very poor light..

Sewing together

We did a fun experiment of sewing cushion covers for our pillows that we love using to loll around.
The joy of sewing together was the reward that we received. The incomplete version's pic is posted above. The tools on the right....no sewing machine yet so we were sewing by hand. :-)

Crochet scarf

Crocheted a scarf for DH. Used a N hook to finish it off very fast. It was well used during December nights in Balboa Park, San Diego. :-)

Crochet slippers

I made these slippers using a pattern I found on the web.

Crochet

I started crocheting some months ago. My brother and sis-in-law were expecting their first baby.
So these are the things I made for her and baby. The big blue thing is my first project - a poncho for dear sis-in-law. The doll for baby but my parents liked it and now they have it. :-) Baby will get one when she gets a little older. Baby booties in blue. Some flower appliques in case they want to use them somewhere.

Danish woven paper hearts

These Danish hearts are one of my favourite projects. Here is a picture of two heart baskets I had made many months ago. Next to the hearts are paper 3d stars made from glitter paper.

http://permo.homepage.dk/xmsheart.htm is a very nice site with detailed tutorials on how to weave Danish paper hearts (heart baskets, actually).
As I understand from the site, woven paper hearts are a traditional craft of Denmark.

Use a softer paper for making them or else the paper will tear by the time you reach the end of the heart. First try a simple heart with newspaper to get a feel of how it is to be done so you don’t waste your good paper.
I tried these hearts with something called felt paper/velvet paper (it is a very thin layer of felt stuck on paper).
We could also use felt for making these hearts – felt will not tear like paper, so that should be good.

Paper Lantern

Nice paper lantern at this link http://www.pacon.com/projects/PaperLanterns.htm

Felt Toys

I made my first felt toys yesterday. The ideas are all taken from websites over the net.
One was a smiling something. I could call it a smiling puri or a smiling doughnut.
One was a cube.
and one was a flower with leaves.

Shopping

Going home for two weeks. Shopping spree going on. Have bought pack of 10 scissors with serrated edges for crafts. Loom kit. 3 500-piece jigsaw puzzles. Have ordered a CD from classifieds. Still lots to do.
